Free Comic Book Day

Free Comic Book Day is held on the first Saturday every May.  FCBD is all about promoting reading - it's a great way to kick start that all important reading habit in the young as well as means of reconnecting with the simple joy of reading a fun story.  FCBD is the best day to check Mark One out for the first time, and a fantastic way for Mark One to say thanks to all the people that have kept us in business these past 27 years!

The Nitty Gritty: Mk1 is located at 551 Victoria Street, Hamilton and our doors will be open from 9am-5pm on Saturday May 7th.  The shop will have numerous tables laden with over 4000 comics, divided into Mk1's recommended age ranges - All Ages, Teens Plus and Mature Readers.  Everybody who visits on the day is invited to choose three free comics from the tables.  You can view this years' offerings and more info about this international event at the official website www.freecomicbookday.com

T1WK11

We made it!  One huge thanks to the students of ruma Kereru for a riveting, eye-opening and fun-filled term one.  It is difficult to itemise all the learning opportunities that have taken place over these past 11 weeks - I think perhaps today's Friday Finishing list gives some indication as to the diverse amount of things we get through in just one week:

  • Publishing Camp Memoir #3 on the google drive
  • Updating Maths progressions
  • Updating Writing progressions
  • Drafting cardboard arcade reflections
  • Publishing cardboard arcade reflections as a google slide
  • Reflecting on 4x camp highlights using visuals
  • Solving 3x 'Basic Facts' Mathletics tasks
  • Filling out the swatch-match art activity
  • Cataloguing reading on Reading Rewards

We were treated to a skilled guitar performance by Krystal and her Goodwood Guitarists at today's School Assembly. This group included:  Saoirse, Melissa, Lucy (Ste) and Tom.

Congratulations to Zarah and Trilby who earned class certificates this week for clear and articulate SOLO (self) assessment.  A 'goodbye' and 'best of luck' Levi as you move to the Coromandel.  Your hard work and enthusiasm will be sorely missed!

Stay safe and we will see you all next term!

T1WK10

Although I have only been in class just the once, (!) this week, there is plenty of success to celebrate as we make our way towards end-of-term:

  • Rangoli finger-art with Mrs Cutler
  • Exploring cyber-safety on Hector's World
  • Backing up Progressions on the 'drive'
  • Learning how to respond to googledrive comments about our camp memoirs
  • Taking part in Kakariki and Takahe Cardboard Arcades
  • Congratulations Phoebe, William, Amara, Zarah, Trilby, Melissa and Hyun-Jun for your successes in the St Peters Pool @ Inter-School Swimming on Friday

Jim, Riley and Eden in the midst of hosting their Arcades.

Aaryn and Aimee with their cardboard creations on Tuesday.

Guess who Miss Fredrikson and I bumped into whilst at our Incredible Years Workshop on Monday?
