HW T1WK2

In T1WK2 we will be having a Compliment Circle focussing on 'emotions'.

Using the following 'Phrenology' poster for 'Inside Out', create your own silhouette with colourful emotion characters in a poster to go onto the cover of your 'Connections' unit of Inquiry book. Cover with clear duraseal, (there is a limited supply available in Kereru).

In 2016, students in Kereru will be recording their reading material and time spent reading using www.reading-rewards.com This is a quick and easy way for students, parents and teachers to monitor reading progress and serves as an excellent motivator for students with neat games and rewards that can be generated the more you read.

Several years ago my cousin's daughter, (then in Year 3) showed me this online resource that her school in Auckland was using. As a non-reader, seeing her gobble up books, (in the holidays even!) and record her reading online in such a straight-forward manner, I decided to test this on my class the following year, (2013 with Year 7-8 students).

It was a huge success, transforming some non-readers into avid book fans and bred competition among book-lovers, seeing who could accumulate the most points and earn ever-changing animal avatars.
