Making Connections with our Korimako buddies

Kereru had the pleasure of hosting Mrs Kibby and Korimako students on Friday afternoon.

We shared our unit of Inquiry work; googleslide moodboards on BYOD's and class devices.

Korimako students gave valuable feedback and feed forward - changes will be made to our blueprints before we begin creating with cardboard next week

Korimako students will be just some of our 'customers' as we host our cardboard challenge later in term one, (after camp, date TBC)

T1WK2

It is hard to believe that we are just two weeks into the new school year!

In the seven days that Kereru have been together, we have:
  •  Gotten to know one another through the lens of the Goodwood Explorer and the 'Connections' unit of Inquiry
  • We have taken every opportunity to get into the school pool to cool off and exercise our swimming skills
  • Discussed 'how we learn best' by co-constructing an essential agreement
  • Started up Reading Rewards, KaHoot and Googledrive accounts
  • Examined the positives and negatives of ICT learning at home and at school to begin our focus on 'cyber-citizenship'
  • Completed two sets of 'Friday Finishing' - an opportunity to complete work by the end of the week using checklists to be 'self smart'
  • Maintained our strong work ethic and positive behaviour alongside our regular reliever for term one, 'Mrs Chapman'
  • Made a start with our new stationery but left the box behind for a little project starting next week...

A huge 'thank you!' to Kiwi and Kea who co-presented our first school assembly for 2016.

  • It was a super-hot half hour in the hall but SNR's conducted themselves well, getting used to the new 'houses' seating arrangement
  • Kereru practised this new layout during buddy time and paired up with new entrant learners from Piwakawaka and Warou to show them where to sit
  • We found out the name of our next door neighbour class - Mrs Alton's learners can now be referred to as 'Kakariki!'
  • Hugo and Kendra were our first awards recipients for the year

Today Kereru explored 'Why do seasons change?' on Wonderopolis.
We are learning how to:

  • ask umbrella questions relating to a big question
  • discuss findings from video excerpts
  • take turns reading aloud wonders in a group setting
  • solve 'test your knowledge' multi-choice questions
  • locate definitions during the 'wonder word' challenge
  • write our new findings into our exercise books
